Columbus McKinnon syncs 77,000+ SKUs with inriver PIM to Bynder DAM connector

The challenge

Columbus McKinnon has a vision for well-orchestrated product data that fuels the product experience. This is no small feat, considering the manufacturer’s data spans 77,000+ SKUs and 19 global brands.

Working toward this goal, they implemented inriver PIM and Bynder DAM. The only problem? The two systems were siloed and disconnected. Moving assets and enriching data took hours of manual effort, which stalled updates to critical channels like their ecommerce site.

Columbus McKinnon knew integration could fast-track their ROI. So, they turned to Ntara and our proven inriver-to-Bynder connector.

Media on the move

With the help of Ntara’s DAM experts and inriver Champions, Columbus McKinnon embarked on a strategy to sync their product data and digital assets.

Black circle on left filled with smaller red, yellow, and blue circles of different shapes and sizes. In the center of the circle is the word inriver in white. Black hexagon on the right filled with smaller red, yellow, and blue squares. In the center of the hexagon is a gray hexagon with the Bynder logo at the center. The two shapes are connected by dotted red, yellow, and blue lines.

But first, we needed to bring all media from its previous storage in PIM into the new Bynder DAM implementation. We created an outbound integration to automate the process, migrating all assets and metadata in one big move.

Syncing inriver PIM to Bynder DAM

Next, we implemented the inriver PIM to Bynder DAM connector, configuring it precisely for Columbus McKinnon’s needs. The integration keeps the systems in sync, allows data sharing between systems, and alleviates any issues with publishing product information to the company’s websites.

Black circle on the left filled with smaller circles in red, yellow, and blue. Black circle on the right filled with smaller hexagons in red, yellow, and blue, with a gray hexagon in the center. The two circles are connected by black and gray lines and white dots. In the center is a circle with two looping white arrows.

Bynder and inriver work exceptionally well together. When an action happens in DAM, it triggers a notification that inriver PIM can receive, validate, and ingest.

There’s also a ‘closed loop’ that sends related metadata back to Bynder. This makes assets more searchable and discoverable, without users spending hours of manual work enriching metadata fields.

Columbus McKinnon also saw the potential of easily sharing URLs instead of moving large asset files. However, they wanted to take a phased approach while making other system changes. So, we designed a process that supports their existing functionality while setting the stage for future goals.

Final result

Columbus McKinnon is an excellent example of a manufacturer on the path to significant ROI. They can now seamlessly manage 77,000+ SKUs and over 16,000 digital assets across 19 regions/languages within a fully integrated PIM + DAM solution.

This strategic initiative modernizes the manufacturer’s technology infrastructure, positioning them to remain competitive and foster continuous growth.
